Newspaper cartoon featuring minor league baseball home run king Joe Hauser and spit-baller Frank Shellenback by noted sports cartoonist and comic book artist Jack Burnley.4 X 5.5 inches, neatly trimmed from an issue of the Cuero (Texas) Record, dated August 27, 1931. Hauser was a first baseman in the major leagues from 1922 to 1929, with the Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland Indians. His major league career was undistinguished, but he made a name for himself in the minor leagues, where he became the first player ever to hit 60 or more home runs twice in his professional career; 63 in 1930 for the Baltimore Orioles and 69 in 1933 for the Minneapolis Millers.
